About

Reviewing a South African band every week for 52 weeks. Let's see if we get the rock or the rock gets us...

LA Cobra
Enter the styles of LA Cobra, proving that old-school, 80s, biker, big-hair, tattooed denim rock is alive and kicking right here in South Africa. They intro themselves with a huge announcement and a giant banner on the wall behind. With 3 electric guitars, 1 bass and the drums in the mix, this is a big band with an even bigger sound. It really is all about the strings and the screams.

All in all, they’re something different - they have the style, they have the attitude, and more importantly they have the talent. With funked up names like “The Animal” and “Mr Cobra” and cowboy boots with denim all round they can’t go wrong in their 80s revival efforts.

Def Leppard and AC/DC come to mind when watching the antics of this explosion of rockers with their energetic guitar solos flying all over the place and a pair of voices to match the genre perfectly.

Big, long guitar-based compositions between short repetitive choruses show you its all about the music and less about the lyrics. It’s classic entertainment, yet it’s live in your face.

LA Cobra is a fun band, with a great idea and good execution - keep an eye on them.
